Galaxy A05 Repairs from £49

The A05 is one of Samsung’s cheapest current phones, sold to people who want something that works rather than something that impresses. Screen £59, and rear panel, camera, battery and charging all £49.

Unlike the older budget models further down our list, the A05 is recent enough to still be receiving software updates, and that genuinely changes the repair maths. A cheap phone that is still being patched is worth keeping running. A cheap phone that has been abandoned is not the same thing at all.

Check Your Warranty Before Booking

The A05 is new enough that a good number are still inside manufacturer warranty, which is worth two minutes of your time.

• Manufacturer warranty covers faults, never accidental damage
• A cracked screen is never covered, so bring that to us
• A battery failing this early may well be Samsung’s responsibility
• A charging port that died with no damage might be covered
• Liquid damage is never covered by anyone

We would rather point you at a free manufacturer repair than take your money. Come to us for damage, for anything out of warranty, or when you need the phone back today rather than in three weeks.

Galaxy A05 Battery Replacement (£49)

At £49 this is the most worthwhile repair on the phone and the one most A05s eventually need.

• Capacity noticeably below where it started, under Settings then Battery and device care
• Not lasting the day where it once managed comfortably
• Sudden shutdowns with charge still displayed, worse in cold weather
• Charge dropping in steps rather than smoothly
• The phone feeling slow as well as short on charge

On a phone with this little memory, slowness is usually storage rather than battery. The A05 fills up fast and a nearly full handset crawls whatever the cell is doing. Clear space and restart before assuming hardware, and if the phone is still young enough that a battery has genuinely failed early, check your warranty first. Galaxy A05 Screen Replacement (£59)

An LCD panel bonded beneath toughened glass, replaced as a complete assembly. LCD fails differently to AMOLED and the symptoms are worth knowing.

• Cracks radiating from a corner or edge impact
• Dead zones where touch no longer registers
• White or bright blotches rather than black bleeding
• Backlight failure, leaving a faint image visible under a torch
• Ghost touches occurring with nobody holding the phone

Check the backlight before assuming the worst. If your A05 appears completely dead but you can make out the home screen with a torch shone at it, the phone works and only the backlight has gone. Galaxy A05 Charging Repair (£49)

Most charging complaints on budget phones are compacted lint in the USB-C socket rather than a failed port, and clearing it is not a chargeable repair here.

Genuine failure means charging that works only at one angle, cuts out when the phone is moved, or a connector that feels loose. Change the cable and mains plug first, because worn cheap cables cause more of these than broken ports do. A composite rear panel rather than glass, which cracks or scuffs rather than shattering and takes drops far better than a glass back would.

• Cracks and deep scuffs rather than spidering across the whole back
• Debris able to reach the camera lenses from behind
• Sharp edges where a panel has split
• Panels lifting at a corner after a hard drop

Simple rear lens arrangement set into the panel, which keeps repairs straightforward and damage confined.

• Cracked lens cover with the module beneath undamaged
• Blurry images, which is frequently just a dirty lens
• Camera app opening black or crashing on launch
• Focus hunting continuously without settling
• The camera app slow to open, which here is nearly always memory

Making a Cheap Phone Last

The A05 has modest memory and storage, and how you use it makes a bigger difference to how it feels than anything we could fit inside it. None of this costs anything.

• Keep several gigabytes of storage free, because a nearly full phone slows badly
• Uninstall apps you have not opened in months rather than leaving them dormant
• Restart it properly once a week, which clears memory far better than locking the screen
• Move photographs to cloud storage or a computer rather than letting them fill the phone
• Use a decent charging cable, since worn cheap ones damage ports over time

A fair number of the A05s brought to us as faulty are simply full. If a clear-out and a restart sorts yours, that is a better result than a repair and it costs you nothing. We would rather tell you that than take a booking.

Water Damage and Unclear Faults

Treat the A05 as completely unsealed. Liquid damage is assessed rather than quoted, is never covered by manufacturer warranty, and at this price is often not economic to put right.

In-store repairs are usually completed within one to three hours on the same day and you are welcome to wait. Mail-in repairs are typically finished within eight to twelve hours of arriving and returned tracked, most customers seeing their phone in two to three working days. Send-back postage is free.

Every eligible repair includes a 12 month warranty on parts and labour. New accidental damage, liquid damage and unrelated faults are excluded.
